How we use AI
We want you to know exactly where Talescout uses artificial intelligence, what it is never used for, and how you can always tell.
The fiction is written by AI — and labelled
The short stories in the feed are original fiction generated by AI (primarily Anthropic’s Claude models; another established provider, such as OpenAI, may serve as an operational fallback), under strict rules: every story is wholly original, never imitates, depicts or claims to be by any real author, real work or real person, and stays PG-13. We label the stories as AI-written rather than implying a human wrote them — the label travels with the feed, without interrupting each story. The fiction is for enjoyment; it is not factual content.
Human oversight is real but honest: the stories are generated under rules we set and we monitor outputs against those rules — we do not hand-edit every story and we don’t pretend to.
Book information is AI-assisted and grounded
Some book information (genres, moods, descriptions) is AI-assisted. Because AI models can be unreliable on factual detail, we ground this against public sources such as Open Library, and where we show ratings we prefer real crowd ratings from named sources over anything invented — if we can’t stand behind a number, we don’t show one. Always confirm edition, price and availability with the retailer.
Non-fiction and topic explainers
Our book summaries and “what’s actually true” topic pages are AI-drafted analysis and opinion, written under rules that require named sources, plain language about uncertainty, and a clear split between the mainstream view, credible contrarian reads and our own weighted take. They can be wrong; we’d rather be corrected fast than pretend otherwise. Nothing there is professional advice.
Personalisation
Talescout learns your apparent preferences from how you read and uses them to tailor your feed. That personalisation runs on our own systems against your anonymous profile — see the Privacy policy for what is collected and your controls.
What we do not use AI for
- No decisions about you with legal or similarly significant effects.
- No imitating real authors, real books or real people in the fiction.
- No fake reviews, fake ratings or fake endorsements.
- No passing off AI writing as human-written, or fiction as fact.
How you can always tell
Fiction surfaces carry a persistent AI label and say so at the start; the handover from an AI-written story always points at the real, human writers behind it. Recommendations are clearly recommendations, with affiliate links disclosed alongside them (see the Affiliate disclosure).
A note on the law
This policy supports our transparency obligations for AI-generated content, including the EU AI Act’s transparency rules, under which AI-generated creative content may be disclosed in a way that does not spoil the experience. Questions: privacy@talescout.app.
