Much of your material is older than Earth

A short idea drawn from Cosmos by Carl Sagan.

The early universe produced mostly hydrogen and helium. Stars later fused lighter nuclei into heavier elements, while stellar deaths and collisions dispersed enriched material. The carbon in cells, oxygen in breath and calcium in bone therefore entered Earth's story after earlier cosmic histories. “Star stuff” is provenance, not only poetry.

Not every element follows the same route: different stellar processes and explosive events contribute different nuclei, and hydrogen largely predates stars. Nor does shared material imply a mystical continuity. The bounded wonder is chemical. A body assembled recently can be made from atoms whose formation belongs to times and places before the Sun existed.
